OK, so I never post these days, shoot me.
My hands will have to endure some pain so that I can share with all of you how cool many of these German bands I've contacted re: my radio show have been.
One band, Grossstadtgeflüster e-mailed me back after I ordered their CD and after a few exchanges, they agreed to do a Station ID for me. Sweet, eh?
Then the band Zur Zeit - einfach frei responded to my request for the location of a merchant who sells their CDs to inform me that their first album has not yet been released. . .but they will be e-mailing me 2 or 3 songs in the next week. They also sent a separate list of some other German that bands they themselves find cool.
I've just come into contact with another couple of bands, too. Turns out, they like the idea of their music being played on American radio, even if it is just WBGU FM 88.1 FM in Bowling Green Ohio.

It's so cool that you are hosting a college radio show. Did you know that Tom's dad used to host a show at Oberlin College when Tom and Julie were kids? Sometimes they would go with him and "help" with the show.
No, I didn't know that? What kind of music did he do?
Let me know if you have any requests, as I have quite an array of German music, from Crooner-Style Jazz, to Punk, to 80s hits, to Gangster rap...I even have an album produced by LEE HAZLEWOOD (I'm guessing you and "Tom's dad" may be 2 of the few people I know who recognize that name immediately), and sung by a somewhat famous german punk rocker---the album was labeled by some as "cowboy surfer vampire music" (what more could you ask for?). There's one track on which Lee even sings a duet (back in forth in German and English).
If you didn't know, Lee passed away this August (2007) after a 2005 diagnosis of renal cancer.
Well, let's see. Ben (a.k.a. "Tom's dad") could explain it to you better, but, briefly, his radio show was called "Scratchy Records" because that's where the music came from that he played - old scratchy record albums that he bought as much for the kitschy cover art as for the music. That type of music is now popularly known as "ultra-lounge", I guess, but back then it wasn't popularly known as anything because it wasn't yet popular.
I wish I knew enough about German music to make a request. Hm-m-m... Falco was Austrian, wasn't he? The only German band I know of is Autobahn, I believe. I like the music on your myspace page, whatever that is.
"cowboy surfer vampire music" - that says it all, all right. Reminds me of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys with their "western swing" - a Mancine family favorite frequently heard on "Scratchy Records".
I recognize the name Lee Hazelwood because I believe he sang "Jackson" ("we got married in a fever - hotter than a pepper sprout") with Nancy Sinatra. Upon reading about him in Wikipedia, I learned that he wrote the classic "These Boots Are Made for Walkin" for her, as well.
I will have to pass this whole conversation along to Ben, as I know he will be most interested in it. I'll ask him if we can pick up your show way out here in the wilds of Portage County.
The music currently on myspace is by a band that has not yet released their album. He is self-producing demos, and he e-mailed me a few tracks for my show. Maybe I will play one of his songs next show and list it as a "request" from you (in theory, that's positive for him when we report to the college music journal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_Music_Journal , although he would need a whole lot of requests to make a difference)
Thanks. I would, indeed, like to request that.
