the face of misfortune frowns upon us

my grandmother is at the Cleveland clinic because she's been puking for 2 straight weeks, and they just found a mass on her pancreas.

Bouffer is at this moment undergoing surgery for an intestinal problem.

Max's tire blew out on the freeway near Oakland, so he ran to the previous exit and called the authorities....when he came back, his car was gone. Perhaps only in Oakland does somebody steal a car with a flat tire.

my hands hurt too bad to keep typing....and our property tax just shot up, making out mortgage increase by $87/month (over a 10% increase).

one day at a time, right?

Something good has got to be going on in your life. Focus on that instead.

I hope your Gramma and Bouffer get better. I'll keep them in my thoughts.

I was just being melodramatic. . .but all of those things are happening. We brought Bouffer home yesterday and his incision started leaking like when there's a hole in the package around your thawed out ground beef, so they had us bring him back to be kept there for another day or two (saying after the fact that he would leak enough to "fully saturate a beach towel every three hours", so it wouldn't be smart to leave him in the house alone.

Meanwhile (actually, earlier, but meanwhile sounds better), a woman was crying at my desk today because she doesn't have the $70 needed to go to the doctor and get her insulin and anti-seizure medication. . .the UT Medical Center (fka MCO) closed their free clinic, so the last two in town are overwhelmed and turning people down. . . but I can drop a grand getting my dog surgery just to find out he didn't actually have anything in his stomach, and they still don't know why he was sick. I fear this will haunt my conscience for some time to come.
